Jason J. Sommer engages in a civil litigation practice emphasizing professional liability defense and insurance bad faith and coverage.
Mr. Sommer obtained an A.B. degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego, in 1991. In 1995, he received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
Mr. Sommer began his civil litigation practice as an associate at Mackenroth, Ryan, Jacobson & Fong, handling insurance defense, coverage, subrogation and related matters. In late 1996, he moved to the firm of Jacobson-Markham, LLP, where he obtained significant case management, discovery, and trial experience. Jason joined the firm of Hansen, Boyd, Culhane & Watson as an associate in January of 1999. In May 2003, Jason became an equity partner with Hansen, Kohls, Jones, Sommer & Jacob. His practice areas include business litigation, professional malpractice defense, insurance defense and other related areas.
Mr. Sommer has also been appointed by the Board of Governors to serve on the Committee on Professional Liability Insurance for the State Bar of California. Mr. Sommer also consults with lawyers and lectures on ways to avoid professional malpractice.
Mr. Sommer is a member of the State Bar of California, the Sacramento County Bar Association and the Placer County Bar Association. He is a member of the Capital City Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the American Bar Association National Legal Malpractice Data Center.
